If you’re looking for a unique family outing in the Netherlands, The Chocolate Factory in Veghel (North Brabant) is a wonderful choice, especially for curious children who enjoy a bit of tech.

Located on the Noordkade in Veghel, this attraction is set inside an old factory that has been transformed into an interactive chocolate experience. Rather than a traditional museum, it’s best described as an “edutainment” adventure where learning and play go hand in hand. It is not about chocolate tasting stations but more about the process of manufacturing chocolate.

Once you have bought your tickets and collected your personalised armband, which records your points and progress (as an individual or team) as you work your way through the factory, you board the lift and make your way to the very top of the building. You can ask for your wristband to be activated to English language settings.

Once at the top of the building you will find the cafe which has a panoramic view across the area and the fun begins straight away with stationary bikes that create a reaction when you ride them and a slide that whizzes you down to the next floor where the full museum adventure begins. If you’re not up for the slide then there is a lift or staircase too.

You’ll travel through the building from the top floor down, taking on fun missions to keep the chocolate production running. Along the way, you operate machines, use digital tools, and even create your own chocolate products, such as a custom cereal bar or a packet of chocolate sprinkles, known as Hagelslag in the Netherlands and often eaten on bread. When personalising your hagelslag you have the option of designing the box and receiving your finished product at the end of your visit from the shop on the ground floor. You can also select lactose and gluten free options. The experience is highly interactive, with conveyor belts, robots, touchscreens and even a VR element which will appeal to children aged 6+.

The building has an authentic industrial feel and can feel quite high, especially if you look down from the higher floors. You can see, hear, and even smell the chocolate moving through the factory, which makes the whole experience feel very hands-on.

What makes it especially appealing for kids is the sense of adventure and teamwork. They’re not just watching, they’re actively solving challenges, earning points, and creating something to take home. At the same time, they’re learning about technology and how things are made. At the end of your experience, you can scan your wristband to see your individual and group scores. Where will you place on the daily leader board?!

We’d suggest 2-3 hours for your visit, and it is always worth returning to the top of the building for a drink or more substantial bite to eat to complete your day. There are gluten-free and vegan options available too. It is also possible to visit the cafe without a ticket for the Chocolate Factory should you wish to pop by for a bite to eat, drink, or to enjoy the view.

This attraction is best suited to child of at least 6 years of age and parking is in the car park in front of The Chocolate Factory.
