A fun-filled day out for the entire family
Duinrell attraction park is at the heart of its holiday park and also includes an extensive pool complex called the Tikibad. If you’re looking for a family day out with plenty of attractions and fun for the whole family then Duinrell will not disappoint. The park has over 40 attractions to explore which are set in beautiful woodland and it has a pleasant, laid-back atmosphere. This theme park is on a smaller scale than many famous theme parks but has cleverly combined thrilling rides with more tame attractions for a younger audience yet still maintaining a cosy and family feel. There are winding paths which navigate you around the park and as you meander through the grounds you will come across plenty of interactive features to keep small children entertained along the way. You might come across dustbins which are shaped like people with their mouths open who suck up the rubbish from your hand! As you can imagine this bin probably has a lot of leaves inside it along with genuine rubbish!
Toddler rides
Duinrell really does cater for all ages and there are plenty of rides that are suitable for young children such as the train ride which has adapted seat belts for young children. A firm favourite is the Kikkerbaan, a rollercoaster themed on the park mascot Rick the frog. Children can be seen running straight back to the queue as they come off the ride with beaming smiles. Dotted around the park you will also find trampolines, the Traffic garden where you can ride go karts around a track, the Big wheel, Rick’s adventure castle where you can even find Rick the Frog’s home, a huge playground and a monorail. If fairytales are just the ticket then head for Wonderland where you can walk amongst fairytale characters and their homes, but watch out for unexpected water spouting out at you! There is so much more but it would be unfair to spoil all the surprises. If you’re lucky you may just catch Rick and his friend Leli as they come to greet visitors on the park giving you the chance to get that essential photo for the family album.
Rides for an older audience
With the younger members of your family sorted there is no need to be concerned that there isn’t anything for the more experienced theme park goers. Duinrell provides enough thrills for everyone. Just head to Splash the log flume, or the Dragonfly rollercoaster, the toboggan ride through the forest, or the Falcon rollercoaster with speeds of 70km per hour. If you are still wanting more then the Mad Mill is sure to leave you in a spin!
Indoor activities
Although weather rarely stops children from having fun you may find that you would also like to try one of the indoor activities. There is a ball pool, indoor play area, children’s puppet show called Kwaakes Kwebbel and in high season a park show.
Catering
La Place is featured throughout Duinrell and is a self-catering restaurant where you can purchase sandwiches and hot snacks which are prepared in front of you. During busier periods there are also plenty of snack outlets dottted around the park serving a variety of typical take-away snacks. There is a wonderful pancake restaurant with a working traditional carousel in the middle of it, great fun to watch while you wait for your pancake to arrive. If you wish to sit down for a longer meal or to dine after the theme park has closed for the evening then head to the main park plaza where there are more restaurant options.
Baby and Toddler facilities
Being on a smaller scale you are never far from toilets or refreshment outlets and cafes. You will find baby changing facilities at all of the toilet areas and if you have forgotten to bring nappies, baby food or any other essentials with you then head to the park mini-market where you will find a plentiful stock of such items.
For those visitors who are also residing at Duinrell then you gain unlimited free access to the attraction park for your entire stay. In fact the large playground area which is suitable for toddlers and above is always open!
Tikibad
The Tikibad has 16 fantastic waterslides to explore. This includes a Lazy River which is good for families with younger children. The pool itself has a tropical feel to it with a gradual incline into the largest pool giving it a beach feel. This pool is where the wave machine comes on signalled by a hooter at regular periods throughout the day. You will also find a whirlpool and jacuzzis around the complex. Added in 2017 is a fabulous water exploration area called ‘Kid’s Water Park Playa.’ This large area of water canons, slides and a shallow heated pool complete with fountains and more is designed for children under 120cm tall. So while the big kids race down the daring slides that the Tikibad has to offer the Playa area is a wonderful water world for the younger children to call their own too! When the sun is shining you can head to the outdoor pool where you will find a large sunbathing lawn/terrace too. Within the Tikibad there is a cafe serving a range of hot and cold snacks. With plenty of seating areas in the cafe or pool side there is always a place to take a break from the fun of the pool if you need to. Having late opening hours means that you can visit the attraction park and the Tikibad in one day if you have the energy!!
It is handy to know that there are changing stations and play pens on the pool side. For those children who are not proficient swimmers, arm bands must be worn: the life guards here keep a keen eye on swimming abilities and if your child is not able to swim to a good enough standard in the deeper pool areas they will request that you purchase arm bands for the pool reception, so come prepared!
