Keukenhof is one of the most famous flower gardens in the world, located in Lisse which is about 40 minutes from both Amsterdam and The Hague. It opens its doors each spring, typically from mid-March to mid-May, when millions of tulips and other flowers are in bloom. Mid- April is the best time to see the tulips. Keukenhof is an enormous garden which showcases stunning displays that celebrate the best of Dutch flora such as tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, orchids, and many other colourful varieties of flower.

As you walk through the different areas of Keukenhof you will discover beautifully designed flower beds and themed gardens, each year bringing a particular focus or story told through the flowers themselves. The vibrancy of colours is stunning. There are also indoor exhibitions which feature floral displays and creative arrangements.

Keukenhof has plenty to offer families with fun activities to be found throughout. There is a playground area with larger apparatus and another Miffy themed playground for younger children. The animal meadow allows children to observe the cute animals as they explore and play. If you’re feeling brave you can try and master the maze, and a short climb up the traditional windmill gives a beautiful view across Keukenhof and the neighbouring farmers’ fields.

With such a large area to explore you can easily spend at least half a day exploring Keukenhof. With additional bookable activities such as a boat tour through the bulb fields or the chance to ride bikes through the local fields, you may find yourself staying for the whole day!

There is a range of catering options to be found at Keukenhof from smaller kiosks spread through the park to restaurants offering sandwiches, snacks, ice-cream and some traditional Dutch treats. There are also vegan, vegetarian and children’s meal options. If you fancy bringing your own food then there are areas set up for picnics where you can sit amongst the flowers as if it were your own garden to enjoy the lunch you have brought with you.
