Review: Our Weekend at TerSpegelt

In July we (Jane and family) were lucky enough to enjoy a fab weekend at TerSpegelt, an excellent park in the southern Brabant province. Here is our review!

Lake Beach TerSpegelt

There’s nothing like a weekend break in the run up to the summer holidays.  TerSpegelt was just the medicine we as a family needed.

The drive was just 1 hour and 30 minutes from Amsterdam, even when travelling during rush hour on a Friday evening. As soon as we arrived we could sense the laid back atmosphere and began to unwind. We were staying in a Eurocamp Azure holiday home. The way this park is set out allows for plenty of space around your accommodation. Set out by field numbers the accommodation was placed around the edge of each field with a huge central area for playing in.

TerSpegelt Nature

We were very surprised by the extent of the activities programme and with a young teen, pleased to see how there were suitable activities for him too. To suggest that this park caters for all ages is spot on! So, once unpacked and settled in, we headed to one of the lake areas and to De Wijde Blick, the modern, large bar. restaurant and terrace overlooking the lakes and play areas.

We grabbed a table where we as adults could unwind and our children could set off to explore the recreational beach, air trampoline and play equipment. Inside the restaurant was a lovely cosy children’s play area with interactive construction wall, play kitchen and a cinema room. This area of the park also houses the pool and the SterrenStrand sand and water play area as well as a snack bar and zip wire. Just a short walk further was the large corn maze.

Sunset TerSpegelt

Reluctantly we gave in to the sunset and our yawns and headed back for a wonderful comfortable night’s sleep. Of course, the next morning the swimming pool and SterrenStrand were calling so that is where we headed. The pool itself was wonderfully
warm, so none of that bracing yourself and oooing as you enter the water. This part of the pool area is a simple rectangular pool but also includes a cute area for toddlers and another for babies. If you venture a little further you can discover the family water slide and jacuzzi area.

Next to this is the SterrenStrand. This is like being at an indoor lake beach. With climbing frames, natural wooden apparatus, a castle and so many more nooks and crannies to discover, climb and explore. Just next to this is a raised terrace where there’s also a secret tunnel that leads to the play area.

As a parent, it is great to be able to find a base, bring your own food or order from the poolside bar. Being heated, it’s easy to spend as long or as little time here as you like. As hard as it was we dragged our children away so as we could go and explore more that was on offer, making a bee-line for the Hangout where there was a big screen showing sports and on
that day, Formula 1.

HangOut TerSpegelt

The Hangout is situated next to the Pump Track, which was a big hit. A super expansive track for stunt scooters, skate boards and BMX riders. Inside the Hangout is a bar, pool table and other amusement games. At other times of day you will find other animation taking place or you can visit the workshop next door which is kitted out as a proper woodwork studio, or the attic where you can get creative to your heart’s content.

After all this excitement we popped back to our accommodation for dinner and back out to the corn maze. Our children loved that the reward for completing the maze was to cook their very own popcorn on an open fire. Then we settled in with our youngest for an evening drink and snack back at De Wijde Blick, as our eldest went off to the pool for a pool party, where strictly only teens were allowed. He had a wonderful time with the disco lights, music and inflatables at the ready. With our glow sticks on and scooters we all returned for another good night’s sleep.

On our last day we had a good look around the rest of this expansive park, from its large grocery shop (Spar), the enormous lake where you will find water houses for rent and an area where campers set up their emplacements. We popped into the Attic where our children each made a bracelet and saw that other children were busy building aeroplanes in the workshop. Then it was coffee time.

This time we decided to try The Keizer which is at the entrance of the park. This overlooks the forest where we spotted the entrance to the Gnome Trail. So, drinks all finished we went exploring, looking for signs of gnomes in the forest. This was a simple track signposted by little gnome poles. What we discovered was great fun, from a gnome dining area and washing line to a gnome house.

A quick dip back in the pool and we headed for the 120 metre long double zip wire and a spot of face painting. Before resigning to the fact that our weekend was over, we relaxed at the Hangout and played some pool.

TerSpegelt Zipwire

Our overall feeling of this park is that it is expansive, yet has a very friendly accommodating vibe. There was plenty to do and because the play areas are so big, it never felt crowded. The range of activities and entertainment suited all tastes and ages and there was a good selection of eating options.

We enjoyed the sense of space and were lucky to have glorious weather while we were there. Clear attention to detail has been put into every area of this park and the standard of the facilities is high. TerSpegelt feels modern and spacious and we shall definitely be returning, next time for a longer stay.

If the children allow, we would like to pop over to Belgium next time as it is just 20 minutes away and Beekse Bergen and Efteling are only 40 minutes away so there is a lot to do in the area too.
