Review: Another Fantastic Holiday in the Netherlands

Thanks to the Balfour family for leaving  us this review of their 3rd Netherlands holiday! They stayed at Twee Bruggen and Roompot Beach Resort with their 2 children aged 11 and 14. They said:

“We have just returned from our third trip to the Netherlands which we booked with the help from the ladies at Little Clogs. We have previously been to Duinrell, Efteling and Landal Reeuwijkse Plassen and were looking for somewhere different this year. Laura helped us narrow the endless possibilities down to De Twee Bruggen and Roompot Beach Resort. We took the overnight ferry from Hull, which we got at a brilliant price through Eurocamp. It took around 2 and a half hours to drive to De Twee Bruggen. This park was amazing, definitely our favourite of all the places we’ve stayed in the Netherlands.

Twee Bruggen

We booked accommodation direct with them and we had an immaculate 3 bedroom chalet which had loads of space round it for playing frisbee etc, as well as a little play park if you had younger children. All the facilities in the park were lovely. The pools and slides – indoor and outdoor – were a big hit, we played tennis and the supermarket was well stocked. We also used the laundry mid stay and it was really clear how to use it and again very clean. The food in the restaurant De Schoppe was delicious and we ate there twice. We also enjoyed pizzas one evening too. Our children are a bit older so didn’t make full use of the playground but it looked great fun and always lots of kids playing. We really enjoyed exploring the area and crossed over into Germany a few times too.

Winterswijk

On Laura’s advice we headed to the market in Winterswijk on the Saturday. We picked up some nice fresh fruit and enjoyed trying some of the different food stalls, breaded mussels were so good! We also sampled some ice cream from one of the ice cream parlours on the corner of the square. There are some nice shops and a large Jumbo in the town too.

We hired bikes and enjoyed a lovely cycle to a water mill and then crossed the border into Germany. In the evening we cycled into Bredevoort and had an ice cream. We also enjoyed days out to Movie Park and the tropical pool in Bocholt, which was one of our favourite days of the holiday.

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t so kind to us when we went to Roompot Beach Resort. On one of the days we headed into Middelburg and played glow in the dark golf which was fun and another day we returned to Middleburg and explored the town centre. We found a chocolate museum which passed a few hours and had lunch in the square.

Water fun

The last day was a bit nicer so we hired paddle boards from one of the many water sports centres and then the kids spent an hour on an aqua park which they enjoyed. The location of the beach resort was great and we managed to spend a wee bit of time of the beach in the evenings.

Overall I’d say the park needs a bit of tlc but the kids did enjoy the pool with the slide and wave pool and the location was great. There’s so much to do in Zeeland and I think it’s an area we would like to explore more. We booked the accommodation here through Eurocamp and it was fine for the 4 nights we were there and booking this allowed us to get a good discount on the ferry. We spent our last day before catching the ferry at Rotterdam zoo which was a fab way to pass the day and only half an hour from the port.

Another fantastic holiday in the Netherlands and I’m sure we will be back to this lovely country again.”
