We (Laura and family) recently spent a couple of nights at our newly added park, Dierenbos, which, like everywhere in the Netherlands, works really well as part of a multi-centre holiday as well as a stand-alone trip.
We arrived late afternoon and, after checking in at reception, drove around to our accommodation which had a fantastic location overlooking the lake and lake beach area. We had booked a Cottage Edelhert which we chose because it is brand new, and liked the idea of having a covered outside terrace area. We love being outdoors and the additional covered terrace was a real bonus, as even when it rained we enjoyed being able to sit outside, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The view over the lake was a real highlight and it was perfect for keeping an eye on the children from our accommodation. They’re 10 and 11 now and loved exploring the lake beach area and having fun on the play area at the other side of the lake.

We were really impressed with our accommodation. It was spotlessly clean and the rooms were all a good size with tasteful decor throughout. The shower was powerful, and we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. One thing we especially appreciated was the cosy sofa and chairs so we could all chill out on an evening. We didn’t need it during our stay, but this accommodation has aircon too.

Once we were settled in, we nipped out to nearby Vinkel to get some supplies and then spent a couple of hours enjoying the on-site facilities.
The pool was an instant hit, it’s fairly small, but I actually couldn’t get the kids out! We only left because it was closing. The water is lovely and warm, and we enjoyed playing on the floats and going down the waterslide. There is also an outdoor pool which is open in the summer, and you can swim in the lake. I think this lake area will be amazing in the summer and there are quite a few accommodations you can book which overlook the lake too. We walked round to have a look at the brand-new tree tents which are also by the lake and look brilliant; they even have a slide! We’re sure plenty of parents will be using that instead of the stairs too, and who can blame them!?

There are plenty of play areas dotted around the park including a great one opposite the bar terrace area, and another by the lake which has a cool slide and a zip wire. The kids had lots of fun playing here. We managed to squeeze in a game of bowling too which was great fun. Sadly, I’m no match for my children these days and needless to say I lost. Maybe I should get the bumpers next time too!

We had a drink and an ice-cream on the bar terrace and then went to check out the goats in the petting farm. This is close to the bar terrace area and is open all day so you can come and go as you please. Our son enjoyed brushing the goats, who were incredibly chilled and friendly! It’s a lovely, relaxed space to spend time.
There are lots of opportunities to interact with and help take care of the farm animals at Dierenbos and that’s what sets it apart from other parks. We weren’t there long enough to enjoy everything and there were some disappointed faces when we had to leave early before the bunny cuddling session! It’s a brilliant place for young children, and for animal-lovers in particular, with a really unique feel.

Dierenbos is a gorgeous park and as it’s a sister company to Beekse Bergen you get 1 day’s free entry to any of the attractions included in the Attractions Pass. This includes the Safari Park and Speelland fun park at Beekse Bergen.
We stayed at Dierenbos as part of a multi-centre trip which included Efteling. Efteling is only 30 minutes from Dierenbos so great to combine with a trip there too!
We look forward to returning again soon, ideally for a bit longer next time!
