Review: Beekse Bergen, The Best Holiday We’ve Had So Far

Amy and her son have just spent 4 nights at Beekse Bergen Lake Resort in a Lake View Cabin. They left us this review:

“Full disclosure, Laura is a friend of mine. However, I just would be forgetful if I didn’t think Little Clogs deserved a review and boy oh boy, we have just come back from probably the best holiday we’ve had so far.

It started with her telling me about Beekse Bergen and me thinking how much my son (10) would love it there along with a friend of mine and her daughter (16). It’s not easy to find a place that’s going to suit 2 40-something women, a teenage girl about to start 6th form and a 10 year old lively boy but Beekse Bergen came up trumps.

Laura’s knowledge was invaluable. She knows when it comes to travelling, I’m not big on being with other Brits (no offence but the idea is to get away) and I’m not a lover of big resorts and my budget is modest to say the least but I’m currently off camping as it never feels like a rest.

The lake cabin she recommended, right on the end from everything else was beautifully tucked away. It had the rustic vibe and was a perfectly peaceful escape. It won’t be for everyone – if you’re a clean freak and don’t like spiders and a bit of nature, then it’s not for you, but if you want a cabin in the woods, right on the water yet easily in reach of all the amenities, it totally hits the spot. My friend and I surveyed all the other options while we were there and although waking up to the animals would have been amazing, being on the lake resort meant we got on our bikes and all of us loved cycling around and between the resorts. Taking our bikes meant we didn’t have to wait for any transport options and to cycle from our cabin right round to the safari park entrance to us less than 20 mins so we didn’t waste any time. We also cycled over to Speelland which again, was under 20 mins.

We took our paddleboard and kayak (yep roofbox and cycle rack) and loved being able to launch from our cabin straight onto the lake. We had a sunset paddle the first night and enjoyed a couple of serene morning paddles as well – I even managed a quiet cuppa out on the paddleboard on the last morning.

My son, loved the freedom of being able to cycle down to Ganvie village and go for a swim in the pool while I was unpacking the car on the first day. I had the activity passes on my phone but guest services helped him and printed all our passes so he could have his swim.

We found the previous guests had left rubbish out at the front of the cabin but we popped down to guest services and they collected it all the next morning. They were also great when my son had a nosebleed over the sheets during the night and took the sheets off our hands and gave us a new set without a problem.

The indoor swimming pools at both Ganvie Village and Karibu Town offered enough entertainment for my son and we enjoyed a couple of swims. We hit Karibu Town swimming pool between 12 and 2 one day and it was much quieter.

Seeing the animals was wonderful – we cycled the first morning around the safari resort and just stopped when we saw animals. We also really enjoyed the driving safari and I don’t think my friend will wash her car ever again as a giraffe licked it.

Giraffe Game Drive

As a result of Laura’s recommendation, we booked the game drive a month or so before our trip and really thought this was worth it. Our guide was knowledgeable and made it fun.

We ended up walking through the safari park 3 times (I think). We took the boat safari twice, first as an experience and second as a means of transport. Both times from the safari park entrance to the top and we walked back on different routes. The stars aligned on the second boat as the guide spoke English on this one, and we were able to spot cheetahs and sit up on top deck in the breeze. First time, it was just a boat ride and we weren’t in the best spot on the boat but it cut down the walk.

Some people complained about noise on FB but for us only the last night was loud but this was out of BB’s control and fortunately stopped at 11pm.

We returned back with our hearts full of joy, thanks to Little Clogs and the BB team.”
