The Longley family stayed in a Savannah Lodge at Beekse Bergen Safari Resort in August and have just left us this review:
“This is our third year of holidaying in the Netherlands and each year we fall in love with this beautiful country a little bit more.
Laura and Jane have helped us plan our last two holidays and this one was no exception.
We got the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam which I would strongly recommend if you are travelling from the North of England. We then drove straight to Beekse Bergen, caught the Ostrich Express to the Lake Resort to pick up our bikes and have some lunch before heading back to our accommodation in the Safari Resort. Our lodge overlooked the giraffes, rhinos and zebras and what can I say… it was just incredible. Every evening we sat out and watched the animals with some very friendly giraffes leaning over the fence to say hello.
We spent two days exploring the safari on foot, booked the game drive, swam in both the Safari and Lake pools, had a day and Speelland, a day at Efteling and a day at the Lake Resort as the weather was glorious. We also cycled to Hilvarenbeek for dinner one evening.
We had planned to have more days out but there’s so much to do onsite that we didn’t feel the need to leave.
Our youngest has autism and mobility issues. We were very fortunate to be able to hire a cargo bike for him to use and he affectionately called it his “bucket bike.” Little Clogs got in contact with Beekse Bergen for us and found out that if we showed our blue badge they would allow us to park our car at our lodge. This was perfect when we needed to use the car and our son didn’t have far to walk.
Also, from an SEN point of view – a holiday like this is perfect. There are lots of quiet places to explore, we weren’t cooped up in a hotel room and knowing we could pop back to the spacious lodge to have some down time was a huge bonus.
There were tears on our last day when we left but our Dutch adventure wasn’t over just yet. We then drove from east to west to Center Parcs Het Meerdal for a long weekend. A completely different vibe to Beekse Bergen yet still wonderful. With no panic to book activities like the UK parks, we took advantage of the glorious weather and enjoyed the Jeep Safari, hired a boat, bowling and spent endless hours down at the lake. We also visited the local town of Horst for some tapas which was delicious!
Our last day saw temperatures of 33C so we decided to escape the heat and visited the Mall of the Netherlands near Rotterdam before getting the ferry back to Hull.
We had an incredible 12 days in the Netherlands. It was the perfect family holiday and we are already thinking about where to go next year!
Thank you Laura and Jane, you have been brilliant at helping us plan our holiday – I’ll be in touch for 2025!”
