Review: Beekse Bergen, We’re Telling Everyone About It!

The Lloyd family discovered Beekse Bergen via Little Clogs and spent a fantastic 5 days there over Easter, travelling by car from London. They left us this review:

“I had never considered a holiday to The Netherlands until my husband was recommended Little Clogs Holidays. After looking through the website and speaking to Laura we were amazed by the choice of different holidays available and that appeared to be so child friendly.  Our children are 6 and 4 so this was really important to us.

After some discussion with Laura we decided upon Beekse Bergen (BB).  We drove there from London and found the trip to be very easy and the kids loved it.  The ferry really broke up the journey and so we didn’t need to stop from when we drove off the ferry until we arrived at BB.  We were staying in a Lodge by the animals. There is no checking in system as you are sent a email with a code to get into your lodge, so we just drove straight to it.  The kids were so excited when we arrived as the first thing they saw when we arrived at the lodge were giraffes, rhinos, zebras and ostriches.  The lodge was well equipped with everything you would need including a sauna!  Being able to stay so close to the animals is really impressive and you can sometimes hear them making noises during the night… always a good game… guess the animal noise.

Although we were staying at the Safari Resort, we were able to use the facilities of the Lake Resort too.  Both resorts have restaurants, indoor play areas, outdoor play areas and pools.  We visited both pools multiple times whilst we were there and the kids loved it after a busy day, as they were both open till 8pm each night. Everything is made easy for parents whilst you are there. From being able to eat dinner with an indoor play area close by, to being able to have a drink, overlooking the animals whilst the kids played in the sand and play areas.  Also another top tip from Laura – make sure you visit the Lion feeding at the Safari resort, they only feed three times a week so make sure you get the dates/times when you arrive.

Whilst you are there you have the opportunity to visit many attractions as part of an attraction pass. We visited the safari park a number of times and saw lots of different animals each time.  It really is an impressive place, with so much space to see the animals roaming, climbing and swinging! We were able to drive round, walk and take the boat tour.  Walking in from our lodge was a real benefit and made it very easy with the kids. On one occasion we walked down to the main entrance (via the resort entrance), took the boat up to the top and then walked back down to the resort entrance. We covered the whole park and saw so much. We were lucky enough to be there to see the baby elephants, cheetahs and chimpanzees, so cute! There are food kiosks dotted about but the thing I was really impressed with (other than the animals of course which are incredible!) was how they made the walking around the safari park so easy for children.  As you walk around there are obstacle courses and playgrounds dotted throughout, it made it even more exciting for the kids and never once did they moan about walking… and they walked a lot!

We also visited Speelland which was great, lots of things for the kids to do and play on, a nice beach and water for the kids to play in.  Well worth a visit if you have the time.  One other thing that we wanted to do was show the kids a little bit of The Netherlands.  On the recommendation of Laura, we visited a small Dutch town called Heusden which was about 35/40 minute drive away.  It is a very quaint cobbled town surrounded by waterways. Upon walking around you will discover 3 windmills, an old castle and even a cannon ball still in place from when it landed into a building many years back.  We had some lunch at De Pannekoekenbakker, a very child friendly pancake house with every topping imaginable. If you have time ask them for the little treasure hunt booklet they have which takes you on a treasure hunt around Heusden.  Everything is made that bit easier as well as the Dutch speak incredible English.

Also close by is another little town close to BB called Hilvarenbeek which has a windmill, few supermarkets, pubs, take aways etc. We went to Jumbo (Supermarket) a few times which stocked everything you might need and had free parking.

All in all it was an amazing holiday which was really child friendly and completely different to anything we had done before. It was not just enjoyable for the kids but for us too! We have been telling everyone about it… so visit soon before most of West London does!  Thanks Little Clogs Holidays for helping us find a holiday that the kids are still talking about.”
