Recently we have noticed that the demand for high end accommodation has grown, with families increasingly seeking luxury experiences and something a bit special when it comes to their holidays, and we completely understand why. That’s why we are excited that Landal has added 3 new boutique wellness resorts to their offering in the Netherlands. Families can enjoy beautifully designed, premium and sustainable villas with their own private pool, hot tub or sauna!
These new, small-scale destinations offer a unique combination of high-end accommodation and peace and quiet in beautiful nature, with cycle routes and walking routes on the doorstep, as well as plenty to do nearby. You can discover Friesland and the Drenthe region, soaked in beautiful forests and heathland, with its historic towns, stunning lakes, drifting sand dunes and the huge Hunebedden prehistoric dolmens. And further south, the Achterhoek with its castles, rivers and ancient Hanseatic cities is like stepping back in time. The Netherlands is like one big playground and because it’s a small country you can feel both away from it all and well connected at the same time.
Landal Brinckerduyn, Landal Roodewoud and Landal Weelderik all feature a collection of sustainably built luxury wellness villas with their own private wellness facilities such as a sauna, outdoor hot tub or outdoor heated pool, and plenty of space for children to play and be free. Note, the private pools are not fenced off.
Families can enjoy sports and play areas, bike rental and a relaxed self-service club house with local produce, drinks and breakfast items to purchase, as well as board games and ball games to borrow.
The resort is located in Friesland, on the edge of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park, one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands, and offers premium holiday villas, each with its own sauna. Guests can also select either a jacuzzi or a private pool for extra comfort.
The villas have been sustainably built and feature solar panels and a private EV charging point. They are tastefully designed and some even have a cool lounge net for children to climb on and chill in!
Children will love the jungle play, the sports opportunities: football, hockey, padel and pétanque. Guests staying at Landal Brinckerduyn also enjoy free access to the indoor pool “Het Bosbad” and the facilities of neighbouring holiday park RCN de Roggeberg, just 15 minute’s walk away. Bike hire is available too, making it easy to explore the extensive cycle network right on the doorstep.
With several restaurants in walking distance and a self-service clubhouse for local produce and barbecue essentials there are plenty of options for eating in or out.
Just 30 minutes away is the lively university city of Groningen, while Giethoorn, the “Venice of the Netherlands”, is just a 45-minute drive away, where the whole town is only accessible by boat. The World Heritage Wadden islands with their stunning beaches and dunes are within easy reach too.
LANDAL BRINCKERDUYN
This small-scale resort enjoys a stunning location in the heart of the Drenthe province, in the Drentse Aa National Park, characterised by its forests, meadows and heathlands. There is direct access to the Pieterpad walking route where children can explore the giant prehistoric megaliths and spot local wildlife, before letting off steam at the multi-sports pitch and at the natural sand and water play area on site.
The premium wellness villas sleep up to 6 and all come with a sauna or jacuzzi and all have a barbecue. At Landal Roodewoud you can choose between two types of wellness villa depending on your preference to have a sauna or jacuzzi. Can you just imagine yourself, soaking up your surroundings whilst sipping a cheeky wine or two from your very own jacuzzi as the sun sets in the distance?
Visit the ancient town of Rolde, just 15 a minute walk away, with its working windmill which you can pop into, and several shops and places to eat.
What could be a better way of exploring the local nature than to hire bikes to get around? Live like a local, pack a picnic and take to one of the woodlands on your bike or on foot. A 25-minute cycle takes you to Gasselte, a stunning swimming lagoon in the middle of the forest. Here you can also find DX Adventure Park with its inflatable obstacle course (suitable from age 6) and beachside play area.
Further afield, enjoy a day out at the Drouwenerzand attraction park in or the Wildlands adventure zoo in Emmen- it even has a rollercoaster
LANDAL ROODEWOUD
Landal De Weelderik is the first Landal resort where every accommodation has its own private heated outdoor pool. These pools are the perfect place to relax and play as a family. Imagine, no opening or closing times or sun loungers to fight for, just your own private space! Pack those lilos and other inflatables and enjoy to your heart’s content! The 6-person premium villas all come with a sauna and barbecue too.
You can also book a massage, rent bikes or roast marshmallows at the fire pit!
Landal De Weelderik is in the Achterhoek region, a 5-minute drive from the town of Hengelo and within easy reach of some stunning Hanseatic cities nearby: Deventer 40 mins, Zutphen 20 mins and Doesburg 25 mins. You can also visit the new indoor attraction park, Bommelwereld, 30 minutes away.
If you want to experience Dutch culture both present and past, this is a great area to visit.

What makes these resorts different to other Landal parks you may ask? You can expect smaller, intimate locations where everything is on your terms. Did we mention private pools, hot tubs and saunas? That certainly speaks to us as we are sure it does to many other families planning their holidays.
Dutch holiday parks always have family in mind, and we love that at these selected luxury destinations you can come and go from the club house and borrow sports equipment free of charge and use the self-service shop to buy essentials, make a coffee or purchase local produce. Whilst you won’t find a large entertainments programme there are sports activities, and with a premium holiday home that provides comfort and an environment to really unwind in, the local area always has plenty to offer for those days you wish to get out and explore.
When daily life tends to be so fast paced, full of distraction and obligations, a stay at one of these luxury resorts invites you to focus on family time, relaxation, and to take a breath and unwind.
