About Sprookjeswonderland

A brilliant day of fairytale fun and discovery

Sprookjes means fairytale in Dutch and Sprookjeswonderland fairytale theme park is a wonderful day out for young children. We think that it is ideal for children up to the ages of about 8. Located just 45 minutes from Landal Waterparc Veluwemeer and Landal Volendam, and under an hour north of Amsterdam, this is a great day trip with toddlers! It is one of those places that the locals know about and it isn’t the first theme park you think about when you come to Holland. It has a real charm and magical feel as soon as you step inside.

The car park (which is free of charge) is right by the entrance so you are straight in once you have parked and can start exploring the houses and the characters. It is a nice sized and manageable attraction park which has the added bonus of not being too noisy or busy. It is attractively laid out and easy to get around with buggies and toddlers in tow! Attention to detail has been given to everything, from the fairytale buildings to the attractive gardens you can see all around. As it is set in woodland it feels well-spaced out and there are lots of little places to go for a picnic or just to sit down for a rest. There is also a pancake house, restaurant and places to buy drinks and ice-creams should you need a snack stop. The park is split into different sections; a fairytale forest, a petting farm, a recently renovated play area and a selection of rides which are perfect for little ones! It is old worldly, quirky and lots of fun!

In the fairytale forest your little ones can walk along the trail, through the gnome village with its red toadstools, peeking inside the gnomes’ houses and watching them singing at work. They can tip toe past statues on the way which stand motionless. Will they come to life when everyone has gone home?! This is a really magical experience with everything at children’s height to look at and to touch. They can see Hansel and Gretel’s house, Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio’s house and the cottage where Snow White lives with the seven dwarfs!

In the attractions area toddlers can drive their very own cars and lady bird boats! There is a little horse ride to go on and a train they can hop on to go and see the Pied Piper of Hamlin. There is also a castle to explore and regular puppet shows which are in Dutch but that doesn’t really matter here! There is also a more daring pirate ship ride which is reserved for over 5s.

The recently refurbished play area is large and has lots of different equipment for different ages. There are different small slides, a separate wooden climbing area and a lovely little merry go round! It might be a challenge getting your little ones to leave the bumpy slide too!

No Dutch toddler attraction would be complete without a Kinderboederij or a petting zoo. The one at Sprookjeswonderland is very clean and well maintained and the animals all have their own areas. Your little ones can meet the goats, the deer and the llamas and even say hello to the kangaroos!

This is a great affordable toddler day out (under 2s go for free and over 2s and adults pay €11,50 per person, parking is free and ice-creams cost from €0,60), and one we whole heartedly recommend next time you visit the Netherlands!
