The Bayliss family have left us this fab review of their summer stay at Beekse Bergen. They stayed on the Safari Resort in a Savannah Lodge and had some incredible views of the animals. They said:
“We had an amazing 5 nights at Beekse Bergen and can’t thank Laura at Little Clogs enough for helping us to find this absolute gem of a place. After stumbling across the Little Clogs website and submitting an enquiry on a Saturday afternoon, Laura called me within a couple of hours for a chat about what we were looking for. She suggested Beekse Bergen might be a good choice for us and our two small boys (4.5 and 20m) – a couple of hours later and we were all booked! It was so helpful to be able to talk to someone who knows the resorts so well, especially when it came to choosing a lodge.
We stayed in 224 (a 6 person lodge) which had a superb view onto the “Serengeti savannah” and were treated to giraffe, camels, zebra, rhino and ostrich wandering past all day. I had worried that we might only get a sighting once or twice, but they are frequently on the move and eat and rest in different areas of the enclosure (which seems pretty large) so there are regular sightings, but the novelty didn’t wear off at all of a giraffe ambling past as we had our G&T!
On our first day we went to Beekse Bergen Safari Park – there’s a lot of walking as the enclosures are so large so for small feet a wagon would be recommended (you can book them with your lodge apparently but I think we missed the boat as we booked quite late). There are numerous playgrounds spread across the park to entertain the smalls and give parents a chance to sit down with a coffee from one of the also numerous eateries. We started with the car safari which was interesting when accompanied by the audio tour via the BB app.
Second day the weather wasn’t so good so we popped into Heusden (another Little Clogs recommendation) for a wander – a gorgeous fortified star town with a few traditional windmills and a castle (which houses a playground within). Highly recommend some apple pie (more like cake) from De Pannekoekenbakker with a coffee overlooking the lovely square – the best apple cake of my life: so good we had to order a third slice after we demolished the first two. A really beautiful town for a Sunday morning stroll – there are 3 free car parks on the outskirts of the town where it’s a short walk into the very car-limited cobbled streets.
We spent the afternoon at the resort swimming in the pool at the Safari Resort (a great small pool for kids with a toddler splash area, larger pool and a gentle “wave rider” slide which was perfect for my non-swimmer 4 year old. We also went bowling (make sure you order some drinks from your lane – they’ll arrive in a robot!) and played in the playground/sandy area outside Karibu Town (really good for slightly bigger kids – any smaller than my 4 year old would struggle to get much out of it except for playing in the sand as the steps are just a bit wide and high). We ate dinner at Moto (book a table, the 5pm sitting was busy) and there was a good range of food for both adults and kids. There’s a small shop on site which sells very basic essential groceries – so we mainly shopped at the Spar over at the Lake Resort which has a decent enough selection, though is quite camping-focused due to its location.
Our third and fourth days were spent at Speelland. So much on offer here – trampolines, climbing frames, little car rides, a couple of small bouncy castles, swings, pedalos, some water slides and a lovely beach on the lake. We were chuffed with our choice of lodge – a safari view really is the most enchanting thing about the resort. The lodge was quite simple, but beds comfortable. One thing to note – the smaller lodges don’t have a freezer compartment in the fridge so our ice blocks were useless and our G&Ts a little on the warm side with no ice!
On two evenings we popped by the Simbara lion enclosure and enjoyed watching them lazing around in the sunshine. Feeding times are on a sign by the viewpoint and Laura’s tip off to make sure we saw it was a good one.”
Overall, a fabulous stay – we will be telling everyone about Beekse Bergen and Little Clogs Holidays!
